Solent Studios is me, Rob Dunning. Photography caught me at an early age and by the time I was 19 I was working around the Caribbean on the cruise ships photographing all sorts … 500+ people group shots on the back of a boat, weddings in Barbados, passengers embarking the ship with cartoon characters and occasionally I dressed as the pirate for the mandatory caribbean dinner photos. It was a great life as a young man but you can’t live on a boat for ever.
After leaving the cruise ships and landing back on planet earth my career took me out of photography and into London for 8 years while I worked in a number of corporate environments. After the sale of the last company I decided to cash in, leave the rat race and go back to my passion of photography.
I started Solent Studios in 2004 and have never looked back. In this time, my job has allowed me to meet and photograph real people, in real environments, naturally enjoying themselves and letting me get great images. There is not a job I desire more than being a photographer.
As “About Me” pages always sound a bit impersonal I thought I’d add the following … I’m 37 live with Monty and Maisey, a tibetan dog and a black cat respectively. I love to ski, run, bodyboard and occasionally mountain bike but also like baking myself in the sunshine on a nice golden beach. I read thrillers and the boy in me enjoys playing PS3 on a rather large plasma or watching football, formula 1 and LOST. I grew up in Bridgnorth, Shropshire but now live in Southampton and consider myself a local having been here for longer than I’ve lived anywhere else. Jack Johnson, Coldplay & Stereophonics all fill my mp3 player and Sky Plus HD is my saviour.
